Kennedy Phounsiri aka EraNetik

EraNetik, born Kennedy Phounsiri, is a bboy, professional dancer, event organizer, and breaking coach. He started breaking in 2002 at the age of 10, with his brother (Lancer) and a few of his neighborhood friends. Growing up in the rough streets of Southeast San Diego, breaking was his way to escape the activity around him and it became what he was most passionate about. He joined his brother’s breaking crew “The Calamities” in 2003 and entered the battle scene. This is when his era truly began. For the next 10 years, he and his crew rose to be one of the top crews from the Westcoast and were winning many competitions every year. In 2011, he won his first international competition in San Luis Potosi and in that same year, he became a principle dancer in the Jabbawockeez show in Las Vegas and Australia. In 2013, he joined one of the greatest breaking crews in history, Killafornia and then quit performing with the Jabbawockeez to focus more on battling and his own ventures with dance. He went on to win bigger competitions back to back, went to Japan to win his first international solo competition, and was one of the top competitors in the scene. At the end of 2014, coming off one of his best years ever in breaking, he experienced a very tragic injury that took him out for almost 2 years. He had to undergo a tommy john surgery to reconstruct his elbow and repair his tricep tendon. This was a crucial injury that still hasn’t allowed him to get back to his peak. He then shifted his focus on teaching and performing. In 2015, he helped open the first breaking studio in San Diego called “The Complex” and in 2021, he started “Finest City Dance” which focuses on youth development programs and event organizing. Besides breaking, he is the head organizer of “Culture of 4”, which is one of USA’s top events, and the “Youth Breaking Conference”, which focuses on the youth breaking circuit in America.

EraNetik’s ability as a bboy is based on freestyle and rhythm. He is known for combining original, dynamic moves with his footwork, while always flowing musically and never losing rhythm. His affiliations include The Calamities and Killafornia, which he reps and helps lead today, while still giving back to the scene through organizing events, workshops, and coaching his students. He also hopes to continue to represent all Lao people across the world and his neighborhood of Southeast San Diego.
