Miracle Smile wins in Vienna!

It's unbelievable what was going on in Vienna on Saturday 23 April! The Red Bull BC One Austria Cypher is doubtlessly that 1vs1 breaking battle in Austria. Good music, brilliant location, motivated judges, a lot of space for cyphering and known faces wherever you see. This year again the relaxed atmosphere offered a perfect base for a dramaturgically and ingeniously staged dance event.

Many cancellations due to injuries and doubtful cases due to health reasons didn't make it easy for the organisation team of Rookies at Work. Due to their good preparation the organisers were able to react quickly and made 9 instead of 8 places available in the preselection on the day before. The reason for this was the knee injury of the Wildcard winner Guti who couldn't compete. The Wildcard winner Che Che as well suffered a hand injury one week before but this didn't prevent him from taking part. Freaky Phil from Salzburg who got the second place last year was just very unlucky this year. One hour before the beginning he hurt himself during the warm up and had to suspend. Lil Sunji from The Only Kingz from Vienna took then his place. The judges had prepared an emergency list after the preselection on Friday and there he was the first choice.

Now it could be started and the audience was ardent. About 600 spectators, among them many dancers and hip hop enthusiasts, experienced an exciting opening show with the presentation of the TOP16 and the greeting held by the moderation duo Knuffelbunt (Austria) and Mario Bee (Netherlands). It became also very loud when the first-class jury entered the cypher which was surrounded by hundreds of people. Among them the two Red Bull BC One World Final Champions Mounir (France) and Wing (Korea) as well as the Red Bull Flying Bach & Flying Illusion dance star Lil Ceng from the Flying Steps from Berlin (Germany). With DJ Fleg (USA) who permanently carried for fresh breaks and atmospheric hip hop vibes the organisers had made a perfect choice.

The battles were promising and gave all reasons to rejoice. In the first round Ghostface, Mogli, Miracle Smile, Stifler and Valo were able to prevail unanimously and clearly against their opponents. On the other hand it was very close in the battles between Che Che and Dr. Ill as well as between Patrix and Vitali (Cherry). One of the favourites, the Red Bull BC One Austria Wildcard winner Rock'n'Rolli, couldn't prevail in the 5th battle against Avatar Joe who was very strong that day and was defeated by the dancer from United Minds from Vienna.

In the round of the TOP8 things got really speed. The first battle was between Vienna and Vorarlberg i.e. between Dr. Ill and Ghostface. Despite a good performance of Dr. Ill Ghostface was able to decide the battle in his favour due to his dynamic combinations. Also in the second battle the decision was unanimous. Mogli just had no means to score against the strong skills of Miracle Smile who marched directly into the semi-final. The last two battles of the TOP8 were staged between Vienna and Vorarlberg. Here Stifler danced against Avatar Joe and Vitali (Cherry) against Valo. In both battles the dancers from Vienna had the upper hand and won.

In the semi-final Ghostface and Miracle Smile enthused the audience a great deal and didn't give anything away for free. In the end it was Miracle Smile who prevailed and convinced the jury through his lightness and his flow. In the second semi-final, a classical Vienna battle between Valo and Avatar Joe, there were just few highlights because Avatar Joe had played all his trump cards in the battles before and couldn't compete against the experienced Valo who won with 3:0.

The final between the last year's winner and defending champion Valo and in the last years coming off badly underdog Miracle Smile inflamed the atmosphere once again. Mario Bee and Knuffelbunt could feel the magic in the air and got the spectators into the mood. It was a sensation because in the next three battles one highlight was chased by another one. A creative battle on a high level, with a lot of feeling, passion and the required respect in every moment. The audience could feel it as well and when the countdown started and the decision was known the euphoria was enormous - "3, 2, 1 and the winner is Miracle Smile!"

The show highlight this night was doubtlessly "Phorm". The dance duo consisting of the French hip hop legionnaire David Colas and his partner Santiago Codon Gras delivered a mercilessly perfect and greatly staged performance. With dramaturgy, a great attention to detail and the highest degree of exactness they presented urban dance of the finest quality. Thundering applause and standing ovation were predestined.

An important concern was brought up by the Red Bull BC One World Final Champion and motivation coach Mounir before all judges gave their best in the much-desired judges show. "The awareness to create something begins with the first step, with a goal, with a dream - no matter how impossible something seems to be, nothing is impossible." For him it's clear that you need to stand up to make the first step. And even when hard work does not always lead you to success, it is however the basis for it: "Working hard doesn't mean you gonna win! But working hard is the only way to win!"

Summary
An exciting final in the Red Bull BC One Austria Cypher does not occur very often. Deservedly and more than happy Miracle Smile carries home the victory and can already think about what to put into his suitcase in December of this year when it's about travelling to the Last Chance Cypher to Nagoya (Japan). Already today it's clear that with his outstanding skills and his flow he will represent his homeland Austria very well. For this we wish him all the best and good luck.
