BE Namur Break Sensation (NBS)

Crew, Dance Crew
from Namur (Belgium)
founded: 1991

It was in 1989, when Benny B fashion was in full swing, that Guillaume Roose, Marc Sevrin, Bashkim Topojani, Julien Roose and Jérémie Roose discovered breaking. Rocked by the memories of the show H.I.P. H.O.P. with Sidney or the “Hey You” of the Rock Steady Crew, with the desire to create their own crew, the 5 friends founded the group Namur Break Sensation, or even NBS for the most intimate, in 1991.

At a time when Belgium, then in the midst of the New Jack Swing wave, no longer practiced this dance, NBS fought to revive breaking everywhere in Belgium. With strong European influences, such as Battle Squad (Germany), Aktuel Force (France) or Second To None (England), NBS is now recognized as the group that started the “modern” era of bboying in Belgium: if at the beginning of the 90s, the Power Moves reigned supreme, it was through Top Rock and the Footworks that Namur Break Sensation then imposed itself.

Pioneer in Wallonia, NBS is especially recognized as the first Belgian group to have joined the adventure of theater and contemporary dance, first in 1996 with the company Hush Hush Hush and the Carte Blanche project in Flanders (more than 130 dates in Europe), and then in the 2000s with his successful shows in Europe and Canada, SC35C and Men Need Sleep, both in co-creation with Jean-Michel Frère's company Victor B. In 2013, The last show, VHS, launched jointly with the pop group Flexa Lyndo, is an experimental and technological reflection on the theme of art.

1st Belgian group to have also participated in the international Battle of the Year in 1996, with the national team Belgian Hip-Hop Alliance, NBS also reached the final of the Battle of the Year Benelux in 2000. In 2021, NBS celebrates its 30th anniversary and still remains active to promote hip-hop culture from its origins in Belgium and Wallonia, in particular with its non-profit organization Wal'Style since 2013.
