AfroBreak is a Breaking group, created in 2004 by young people from the breaking workshop integrated into the percussion workshop of the Espaço Cultural Beija-Flor. Its name came as a tribute to the influence that African culture and all its diversity bring to the Brazilian people, as well as to its communion with Break - a dance modality that was also influenced by the African people and that, despite having acquired its in an urban environment, it is also a culture that resists through its own renewal. The group aims to unite and study the languages of music and dance and re-present them playfully and critically, through performances and artistic shows for different audiences and age groups.
It develops a social work, in the Beija-Flor Cultural Network, using Breaking for social transformation. Aiming at freedom of expression, ideology, opinion, with respect. And the group performs with its choreographies, performances and workshops, in cultural centers, theaters, schools, NGOs, cultural events and Breaking events.
Each member of the group develops a type of work and the group aims at social profit, taking information about our culture through the Internet, and seeking to bring improvements to the community (Region), thus making a better world.
