Athlete: Irene Tanos aka Ivy (Cyprus)

17.09.2018 | Autor: Grigo

  • Member of Nakama Crew and Kazoku Crew (Cyprus)
  • born and raised in Nicosia (Cyprus)
  • started Breaking with 12 years in 2013
  • 13th Place of WDSF World B-Girl Ranking
In the online-video-qualification she achieved the first place in the national ranking, in the Continental Qualifier in Essen she occupied the eleventh place and the thirteenth at the World Championship in Kawasaki. With this performance Irene Tanos aka Ivy brought also for Cyprus the Qualification for the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games.

For Irene everything began in the year 2013. Back then excited by the moves of a friend the 12-year-old decided to enrol for breaking lessons. From her coach Emmanouil Chalkiadakis aka Fox, his crew `Liquid Fire´ as well as from b-girl AT and the Vagabond Crew she gained the most know-how in matters of breaking. Ivy who represents the `Namaka Crew´ and the `Kazoku Crew´ particularly stands out due to her strong stamina; in every round she strives to get the maximal energy boost out of herself.

The 17-year-old loves breaking and her life and firmly believes that diligence and a strong will can open all doors. But it’s not only her own performance which counts for Ivy and which she wants to take to the next level - for the young dancer it’s also about the whole hip hop community and she likes to contribute to its appreciation and growth. It’s one of Ivy’s objectives that one day all b-girls and b-boys receive the proper respect also outside the scene.

Thus the participation in the Olympic Games offers Ivy the chance to make a further step into the international scene and grow more into the art of breaking.

Friends and family are the two support columns in Ivy’s life which help her gain courage and motivation to move on. With the motto `Be a better version of yourself each day´ the young Cyprian builds a future-proof foundation for her personal development and her progress in dance.
