CA Mary Fogarty aka DRMJ

Mary Fogarty started Breaking in the early 2000s and is now an Associate Professor of Dance at York University, Toronto. She has performed in Canada, the U.S., Germany, Scotland, England, and Portugal, and is currently on the Board of Directors of Breaking Canada. She is a member of the KeepRockinYou arts collective that organizes the Toronto B-Girl Movement. The co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Hip Hop Dance Studies and of Movies, Moves, and Music: The Sonic World of Dance Films, she is currently working on a Special Issue of Global Hip Hop Studies on Breaking and the Olympics, with Jason Ng. She has been an invited Visiting Scholar at the Hip Hop Education Center, founded by Martha Diaz at NYU, and an invited teacher with Alesandra Seutin’s Vocab Dance Company and with Alias Dance Company, and has taught many community workshops, including Pathways to Education, Pulse Ontario, Barrie Native Friendship Centre and the Leith Community Education Centre.
